      The Burning Plain Reading Series

      Join us for our latest installment of The Burning Plain!

      The Burning Plain is a reading series that now has two hosts! Colleen Mayo and Sebastian Hasani Paramo. This month we start our season off with readings by Taneum Bambrick, Margaret Emma Brandl, Fowzia Karimi, and Molly Bess Rector! Join us for some good literary vibes and enjoy a beverage at the amazing Golden Boy Coffee!

      Taneum Bambrick is the author of VANTAGE, which was selected by Sharon Olds for the 2019 American Poetry Review/Honickman first book award (Copper Canyon Press). Her chapbook, Reservoir, was selected by Ocean Vuong for the 2017 Yemassee Chapbook Prize. She is the winner of an Academy of American Poets University Prize, an Environmental Writing Fellowship from the Vermont Studio Arts Center, and the 2018 BOOTH Nonfiction Contest. Her poems and essays appear or are forthcoming in The New Yorker, The American Poetry Review, PEN America, Narrative, and elsewhere. She has received scholarships from the Sewanee Writers’ Conference, and the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference. She is a Stegner Fellow at Stanford University.

      Margaret Emma Brandl’s writing has appeared in journals such as Gulf Coast, The Cincinnati Review, Yalobusha Review, Pithead Chapel, Cartridge Lit, and CHEAP POP. She earned her PhD at Texas Tech University, completing a creative dissertation titled The Valley of Your Heart: Three Novellas. A Louisiana native, she attended the University of Alabama for her BA and the University of Notre Dame for her creative writing MFA. She has taught for Texas Tech University and Duke University TIP Summer Studies; currently, she is Visiting Assistant Professor of English at Austin College in Sherman, Texas.

      Fowzia Karimi has a background in Visual Arts and Biology. She received her MFA in Creative Writing from Mills College, California. Her work explores the correspondence on the page between the written and the visual arts. She is a recipient of The Rona Jaffe Foundation Writers’ Awards – 2011. Her debut novel Above Us the Milky Way is due to be released by Deep Vellum in April, 2020. She lives in Denton, Texas.

      Molly Bess Rector lives in Fayetteville, Arkansas where she cocurates the Open Mouth Reading Series. She earned her MFA in poetry from the University of Arkansas, and is
      the recipient of residencies from the Edward F. Albee Foundation and the Vermont
      Studio Center, as well as a grant by the Artists 3 60 program. Her work has appeared or
      is forthcoming in Ninth Letter, Prairie Schooner, Hayden’s Ferry Review, and Best New
      Poets 2019, among others. ical export outlook export
