(southwest corner of McKinney Avenue & Worthington) Founder J.W. Tate has moved back to North Carolina, but the cocktails are still terrific at Tate’s, a no-nonsense, straight-ahead craft cocktail bar in Uptown. Lately I loved a Lagavulin Old-Fashioned, dressed up with burdock bitters and dandelion bitters and topped with a float of Laphroaig Quarter Cask. It’s a pricey pour at $18, but ask for it on a Whiskey Wednesday, when all straight whiskeys and whiskey Old-Fashioneds are half-price, and it’s yours for $9. The Oaxacan Old-Fashioned is another delicious way to go, should you find yourself in the mood for mescal. (Yes, it is all the rage these days.) More summery is a Papa Doble, with Flor d’Caña rum, lime juice, Luxardo Maraschino and a touch of grenadine. Leslie Brenner/Guide
