Social Networking for Construction Estimators: The How, When and Where for Connecting and Collaborating

Presented by James Benham of Smart Bid Net

Social networking is more than just a buzz phrase or trend for today's construction professional. Now, social networking is a formula to maximize efficiency and save costs. This dynamic presentation discusses how networking tools such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and others help the busy AEC professional build and maintain prospect, client and vendor relationships. Learn how sharing instant updates, posting two-way communications and facilitating group collaboration through social media can build connectivity and productivity. Technology expert, James Benham lays the groundwork to start and expand your professional social network, including the benefits, and the tools.

      Learning Objectives:

      • Discover new ways of utilizing social media to build and maintain industry relationships.
      • Explore LinkedIn as a human-powered search engine to seek industry feedback, projects, and service/product recommendations.
      • Learn how an internal social media strategy improves collaboration and communication within your company.
      • Analyze social media as a powerful, real-time project and team management tool.

      About the speaker:

James is the founder and president of JB Knowledge Technologies, Inc. an information technology services provider and maker of the SmartBidNet and SmartCompliance software solutions. SmartBidNet is a construction bid invitation and management software for commercial construction general contractors and in just a few years has established itself as the leading preconstruction management software in the construction industry.

While growing up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, James Benham had a fascination with software from an early age. He began writing code at the age of 11 and by 14 had developed his first application. Just two years later, he launched his first company, providing dial-up Internet to over 4,000 users. While completing a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and a Master of Science in Information Systems from Texas A&M University, James could no longer resist the call of the entrepreneur and began establishing his second company.

With his experience in the use of technology to improve efficiency, James is a sought-after speaker on AEC industry technology and software across the United States and Canada. James’ dynamic speaking style allows him to share his extensive experience in and knowledge of technology in a down-to-earth manner.  James is an active member and sponsor of the American Society of Professional Estimators and serves as the Chairman of the ASPE National Speaker’s Bureau. He also believes in giving back to his community and serves as a member of the City of College Station Planning and Zoning Commission and as an active sponsor of the Corps of Cadet’s association. No matter who he finds himself in front of, James’ passion for information technology is as evident today as it was when he wrote his first line of code.
