March Meeting of Newcomer Friends of Greater Plano - Adventures of a Second Career

Come join us for our monthly program. All women in the North Texas area, whether new to the area or established residents are invited. Irene Sandell will be speaking and the topic is Adventures of a Second Career.
Irene Sandell is a former Texas history teacher. After she retired from teaching she took her love of Texas history to the next level by starting a second career as a writer and documentary film maker.
Over the years Irene found thousands of interesting hidden stories tucked away in history to inspire her writing. She loves Texas history and writes historical fiction about some of the places, events, and people she has researched. She and her husband enjoy travelling around Texas to research, film, and photograph the state’s story.
Irene will share stories of her second career. She will discuss the methods she uses to research material for her books and documentaries.
Irene has written four historical novels, produced 19 documentaries and written several classroom textbooks. She has also won the WILLA Literary Award for the Best Original Soft Cover Fiction for 2017 and the Will Rogers Silver Medallion Award for Western Fiction for 2017.
